Two cops martyred in firefight with drug dealers in Sargodha
Two policemen embraced martyrdom and two others received serious injuries in an intense gunfight with drug dealers during a raid in Saroghda, reported 24NewsHDTV channel on Saturday.
A police spokesman said that a team of Laksian Police Station raided a hideout of the drug dealers to apprehend them but after taking the notice of the police team the drug dealers opened indiscriminate firing on them.
During the firing two Police Constables Imran Venus and Rana Shafiq embraced martyrdom while a Sub-Inspector Mumtaz, Elite Constable Nauman received serious bullet wounds.
After the firing, the drug-dealers escaped from the scene after taking advantage of the darkness.
Police started raiding on different locations for arrest of the drug-dealers.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. Usman Anwar took notice of the incident and directed Regional Police Officer (RPO) Mohammad Shahzad Asif Khan and District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Sohaib Ashraf to submit a detailed report about the incident.
IGP Usman Anwar paid glowing tributes to two martyred policemen who sacrificed their lives while performing their duty.
He also directed to use all available resources to arrest the drug-dealers.
The spokesman said that dead and injured policemen were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ),
Mohsin Naqvi pays homage to martyrs
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday paid glowing tributes to two policemen who embraced martyrdom during exchange of firing with drug-dealers in Sargodha.
In his condolence message addressed to heirs of the martyrs, Mohsin Naqvi said that Police Constable Imran Venus and Rana Shafiq sacrificed their lives while performing their duty.
He further stated that both policemen had achieved the highest rank of martyrdom while fighting with drug-dealers.
The sacrifices rendered by martyred policemen will be remembered forever.
He said that “entire nation and he himself is with the heirs and relatives of martyrs during this hour of grief and sorrow”.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to grant courage and fortitude to bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss with fortitude and courage.
He also prayed for early recovery of injured policemen.
