An Excise and Taxation sub-inspector was martyred as officials foiled an attempt to smuggle 37 kilogrammes of heroin near Peshawar, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
One of the smugglers was also killed during the action while his two accomplices managed to flee the scene. However, they have been injured and the officials are confident of arresting them in a search operation which is in progress in the area.
According to details, the action was carried out on a tip-off received by Excise Intelligence Bureau provincial in-charge Syed Naveed Jamal about an attempt to transport heroin from Quetta to Bara via Kohat.
The special team asked the smugglers to stop their vehicle but they didn’t after which the officials started chasing them in two vehicles.
Hence, it triggered a car chase during which the vehicle used by the drug traffickers smashed into one of the Excise Intelligence. As a result, the official vehicle was destroyed as it fell into a ditch, resulting in the martyrdom of Sub-Inspector Samiullah Kashif and serious injuries to the driver.
However, the drug traffickers’ too met an accident soon after that as their fell slid into another nearby ditch due to over speeding. Although they left the scene after being injured, the body of one of them was later found from an area located in Khyber district.
Meanwhile, the officials also recovered 37 kilogrammes of heroin from the destroyed vehicle.
