Elahi urges federal, Punjab govt for action against drugs in schools
Punjab Law Minister announces establishing a separate directorate for the elimination of drugs from educational institutes

Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervez Elahi Monday urged his coalition governments in the centre and Punjab to take action to curb drugs from educational institutions.
He gave such observation during the Punjab Assembly session and asked the Law Minister that drugs were being sold openly in schools, colleges and universities and no action was being taken against it.
The Speaker also asked the law minister about the measures taken by the government for the elimination of drugs from the educational institutes.
He further said that the federal and provincial governments should take action jointly for curbing drugs in educational institutions.
Elahi said that the drugs problem was very important and it should be taken seriously and a clear policy be formulated for its elimination.
On this Law Minister, Mohammad Basharat Raja assured the Speaker that a separate directorate was being created for the elimination of drugs from the schools.
Elahi chaired the Monday session of the Punjab Assembly and adopted the Question Hour regarding the Excise, Taxation and Drugs Elimination Department.
During the session, the Speaker allowed Pakistan Muslim League’s MPA Khadeeja Umar to present her resolution about the recitation of the Holy Quran and Darood Sharif in educational institutions prior to the national anthem during assembly.
It has been stated in the resolution that in all government and private schools in the assembly prior to the national anthem, recitation of Holy Quran and Darood Sharif and prayers should also be offered for safeguarding and progress of the motherland.
Later, the Speaker adjourned the session till tomorrow morning at 11:30 AM.
