FBR introduces new procedure for changing NTN of industrial gas and power connections

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has introduced a new procedure for changing National Tax Numbers (NTN) linked to gas and electricity connections of industrial consumers, setting specific conditions and verification steps to ensure transparency.

According to an official letter issued to all FBR field formations, industrial consumers seeking to change their NTN must submit an application to the concerned Commissioner of Inland Revenue.

The letter states that the Commissioner will verify the NTN registration documents before issuing an order to the relevant electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) or gas utilities for updating the sales tax registration information.

Under the revised procedure, DISCOs and gas companies will be authorized to change the NTN only upon the Commissioner’s recommendation, ensuring that all alterations are backed by proper verification and approval.

The move aims to prevent misuse of NTN changes and strengthen coordination between tax authorities and utility providers.
