Frustrated by Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) failure to repay Rs127 billion, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Wednesday decided to bar the airline from collecting airport charges from its passengers, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

A letter issued by CAA’s director finance said from now the Civil Aviation Authority, and not the PIA, will collect these charges from the passengers.

And if passengers still pay these charges to the airline from October 1 onwards, the CAA, too, will collect service charges from them, reads the letter.

Similarly, people travelling on board PIA flights will not be able to avail boarding facilities from November 1 onwards.

The CAA has also decided to stop power supply to the national flag carrier’s planes.

The letter further reads that the PIA has to repay the total amount in installments, each of which totals around Rs250 million.
