Expert warns of a deadly wave of COVID-19 in Pakistan in two months

World-famous American expert of Infectious diseases Dr Faheem Yousus have warned of a deadly wave of Covid-19 in Pakistan after two months.

Dr Faheem Younus, Vice President and Chief Quality Officer at UM Upper Chesapeake Health and Chief of Infectious diseases, University of Maryland tweeted about the upcoming dangerous wave of the pandemic in Pakistan. His tweet reads; “India first peaked in August September...Pakistan followed in November December India is now experiencing its second wave. Pakistan could be 1-2 months behind NOW is the time to prepare.”

In a separate tweet, he says; “Eradicating” COVID (like polio) is neither believable nor achievable H1N1 virus — despite causing a pandemic in 2009 — was never eradicated; it became irrelevant mass vaccination will make COVID irrelevant. With time it’ll end. Believable and achievable.”

Experts are of the view that Pakistan has been lucky in the first wave of the pandemic as compare to India but the casual attitude of the masses towards the corona-related SOPs during the second wave can make the situation very deadly. The current rise in coronavirus cases has already alarmed the authorities.

On Friday, Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a meeting of the National Coordination Committee (NCC) wherein he sought the help of armed forces to implement the SOPs. He appealed to the people to comply with the SOPs. The government also decided to close the schools in most of the areas and strictly closing by 6:00 pm.

The situation of the pandemic is getting bad to worst day by day. As per today’s details, 144 people died of Covid-19 while some 5877 new cases are reported during the last 24 hours.
