Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Tuesday issued an order suspending the Commissioner of Inland Revenue of Islamabad and other pertinent officers in response to the "willful" delay in tax cases.
According to a press release from PM Office Media Wing, the prime minister also directed the investigations against the Inland Revenue officials.
Shortly after taking office, the prime minister opted to supervise the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reforms directly and ordered them to be implemented immediately.
As per details, billions of rupees in cases related to government revenues have been pending adjudication in the Tax Tribunals.
The prime minister had requested the Chief Justice of Pakistan for the early disposal of such cases.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said hundreds of billions of national treasury is subject to legal disputes. He categorically stated that he will not accept any kind of carelessness and negligence in this regard.
The Prime Minister said he is personally monitoring reforms in the tax system as per the promise made to the people. He emphasized the need for working tirelessly to save every penny of the country and increase the revenue.
The prime minister observed that the national exchequer had been suffering due to the pendency of such cases involving worth billions of rupees tax matters.
Shehbaz Sharif made it clear that he would not tolerate any kind of lethargy in pursuance of such legal matters, and under his pledge with the nation, would continue monitoring the tax reforms.
“For enhancing the revenues and saving every penny of the country and nation, they would have to strive day and night,” the press release quoted the prime minister as saying.
