Punjab to buy 37 bulletproof cars for security of Chinese diplomats, nationals

In the wake of a suicide attack on a vehicle carrying Chinese engineers at Besham, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) over a week ago in which five engineers had lost their lives, the security of Chinese nationals living in Punjab has been tightened, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.  

The Punjab Home Department has banned the movement of Chinese engineers, including the country’s ambassadorial and consulate staff, in cars other than bulletproof vehicles..

In a letter to the DIG Special Protection Unit, the department has directed him to ensure the safety of Chinese engineers as well as staff members of the country’s embassy and consulate in Lahore.

It is written in the letter that 37 new bulletproof vehicles will also be purchased to protect them from any terrorist act.
