ECP cancels today’s meeting on poll date

The Election Commission of Pakistan has cancelled its today’s meeting called to ponder over the poll date announced by President Arif Alvi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The ECP called off its meeting after the Supreme Court has taken suo motu notice of the poll date issue.

According to sources, the ECP will not now take a decision on its own regarding the President’s orders, rather it will present its stance before the apex court.

The ECP was due to decide on the President’s order in light of the advice forwarded to it by the constitutional experts.

Earlier, President Alvi had directed the ECP to hold elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on April 9.
