Punjab CM takes notice of prisoners riot in Gujrat Jail

Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi Monday took the notice of the incident of prisoners riot in Gujarat Jail and directed Commissioner Gujarat and RPO Gujarat to immediately reach the Gujrat Jail, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

He directed the authorities to take all possible measures to control the riots.

Naqvi said the prisoners responsible for rioting should be identified and action should be taken according to law.

The prisoners riot in the Gujrat district jail of intensified as the inmates pelted stones on the police.

There are also reports of prisoners holding the Assistant Superintendent of Jail hostage after violent clashes between the prisoners and the policemen.

Prisoners have set fire to various barracks and tear gas is being shelled continuously by the police.

Several police personnel including DSP City were injured in the clash. A heavy contingent of police is currently present inside the jail, but the situation seems unable to be controlled.

This is the second incident of rioting in the jail within six months.

According to reports, the prisoners are still firing in the jail and broke out of the barracks and set fire to the jail warehouse.

The jail administration looked completely helpless in front of the prisoners.

RPO Gujranwala has reached Gujrat Jail for talks with prisoners. A team of senior officers headed by RPO Gujranwala reached the jail to negotiate with the prisoners.

RPO Gujranwala said they were assessing the nature of the case.

Several policemen, including DSP City, were injured due to stone pelting by inmates.
