PM wants wheat crisis overcome once for all

Prime Minister Imran Khan Tuesday chaired a meeting on measures to maintain the supply of wheat and flour on controlled prices.

Hafeez Sheikh briefed the meeting about the steps being taken in consultation with the provincial governments to meet wheat and flour need.

Prime Minister Imran reiterated directives to keep on supply of wheat and flout at controlled prices so that the poor could be provide with this basic amenity.

The decision made in consultations with the provinces on controlled prices be implemented at the earliest, the premier directed, adding that long-term planning must be made to get over artificial food crisis once for all.

The PM directed the chief secretaries to take concrete steps to curb smuggling and hoarding of wheat and flour. “Zero tolerance policy be followed to achieve this target,” he averred.

Planning Minister Asad Umar, National Food Security Minister Fakhar Imam, Economic Affairs Minister Makhdom Khusro Bakhtiar,PM finance aide Abdul Hafeez were among the attendees while provincial chief secretaries joined the meeting through the internet.
