ECP fumes over delay in holding of LG polls in Punjab
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) expressed anger and serious concern by expressing anger for not holding local government elections in Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
The ECP also issued a notification to Punjab Chief Secretary and Secretary Local Government asking them to appear before the Commission on May 29 to explain reasons for delay in local government elections in the province.
Election Commission of Pakistan wanted to hold local government elections in the province in May 2025 as all the local bodies departments were dissolved in 2021.
In the notification, the ECP stated that the Punjab Assembly still debating on Local Government Act and Punjab government has failed to pass the bill Assembly.
On May 3, 2025, the ECP issued a warning to the government over persistent delays in holding local government (LG) polls in federal capital.
