Gas to be more expensive, Govt suggests 157pc increase in tariff

After petrol and electricity, the government has prepared to drop another bomb of gas price hike as the Imran Khan-led government has suggested a 157.50 per cent increase in the tariff.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, the government has requested the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to make the gas more expensive for Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.

According to the OGRA’s public notice, a major increase of 157.50 per cent in the average price of Sui Northern gas has been requested.

The government has submitted the request to OGRA in respect of the revenue requirements of the current financial year 2021-22.

The OGRA will conduct the hearing of this request from the Sui Northern Gas authorities in public on December 01 in Lahore.

The OGRA public notice also described that the Sui Northern has demanded an increase in the average price of gas by Rs907.75 per MMBTU against the current average price of Rs576.32 per MMBTU.

The Sui Northern has requested to fix the average price of gas at Rs1484.7 per MMBT per day.

According to OGRA officials, OGRA also sought Rs219.89 billion in revenue shortfalls of previous years.
