The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is starting paying compensation to the victims of Karachi plane crash.

Heirs of three victims and two survivors are being paid Rs10 million each. Engineer Muammad Zubair and Bank of Punjab Chief Executive Officer Zafar Masood survived the crash that claimed 97 persons including seven crew members on May 22.

The national flag carrier has already paid for the treatment of Zubair.  Reportedly, PIA CEO Air Marshal Arshad Malik’s efforts led to an increase in insurance money to be paid to each passenger from Rs5 million to Rs10 million. The PIA has paid for the six-month rent to 22 affected families.
