A major Defence institute Friday dispatched a letter to Directorate General (DG) Oil to take immediate action against Ministry of Energy and Power Division officials’ over showing incompetency and negligence as strategic jet fuel reserves are at stake, reported 24NewsHD TV.

In a letter, the top-notch institute wrote that due to excess stock of furnace oil, there is a chance of shutting down the production of jet fuel.

The closure of jet fuel jet-propulsion fuel 8 (JP-8) by refineries will create a dangerous situation, the institution wrote.

Storage depleted due to furnace oil as Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) and Byco Refinery wrote a letter to address the situation to the authority.

Refineries have no choice left, as a result of having an excessive amount of furnace oil, the letter said.

According to the sources, Independent Power Producers (IPPs) are not buying furnace oil despite receiving billions of rupees due to the incompetency and negligence shown by the officials working in the power division.

IPPs are required to keep stock of furnace oil for 20 days but stock is being kept for two to three days, according to the sources.

According to the sources, refineries produced furnace oil on demand of Power Division and also imported from Pakistan State Oil (PSO).
