A transgender newscaster survived an attempt on her life in Lahore’s Defence B’s area late Thursday night, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

In her complaint to the police, Marvia Malik said that she was a journalist by profession, and worked for the rights of members of the transgender community. “I had also worked on drafting the Trans Protection Bill, 2018 along with some organisations,” she told police, adding she had received calls from unknown numbers. “The callers asked me to stop raising voice for the rights of members of the transgender community,” she added. 

Marvia went on to say that last night when she reached home from the market, two men opened fire at her. “I rushed to my home to save my life. The assailants managed to flee after committing the crime,” she elaborated. 

On the other hand, police have collected evidence from the crime scene and launched hunt for the assassins.
