Race for new Sindh police chief begins as government sends five names to Centre

The Sindh government has forwarded five names to the federal interior ministry for the appointment of the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), as the tenure of incumbent IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon nears its end, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Thursday.

The provincial Home Department has officially submitted the list of potential candidates to Islamabad, setting the stage for a key decision in the province’s law enforcement leadership.

Among the contenders are senior police officers Javed Alam Odho, Syed Pir Muhammad Shah, and Captain (retd) Faisal Abdullah Chachar. Nasir Aftab and Pervez Ahmed Chandio have also been shortlisted.

The federal government is expected to review the nominations and make the final appointment in consultation with the Sindh government, as per the established procedure.

The upcoming appointment carries significant weight, with the new IGP expected to take charge of a force facing mounting challenges ranging from street crime in Karachi to internal security concerns across the province.
