Japanese man didn't speak to his wife for 20 years

A remarkable story from Japan has captured global attention after a husband who had barely spoken to his wife for nearly 20 years finally broke his silence during an emotional television reunion.

According to media reports, the story came to light after an 18-year-old from Japan's northern island of Hokkaido appealed to a television program for help in resolving a long-standing family issue.

The teenager revealed that although his parents had lived together for almost two decades, he had never seen them have a normal conversation.

For nearly 20 years, Otou Katayama and his wife Yumi shared the same home, raised their three children and ate meals together, yet meaningful conversations between them were extremely rare.

Surprisingly, the silence was not caused by a major argument or infidelity. Instead, Otou admitted that he had stopped talking to his wife because he felt jealous of the attention she devoted to their children.

Reports said that whenever Yumi tried to speak with him, he usually responded only with a nod or a brief reply, leaving their relationship largely silent for years.

Concerned by the situation, the couple's youngest son asked the television show to help reconcile his parents. The program arranged a meeting at the same park where the couple had first met years earlier, while their three children watched the emotional moment from a distance.

During the reunion, the husband finally broke his long silence, telling his wife: "It has been a long time since we talked. You cared so much for our children, and you have gone through many hardships. I am grateful for everything you have done."

The touching reunion has since drawn widespread attention, with many viewers praising the family's efforts to rebuild their relationship after two decades of silence.
