Nurse booked after newborn girl's thumb severed at Rawalpindi hospital

Rawalpindi police have registered a case after a 23-day-old baby girl being treated at Holy Family Hospital allegedly had her thumb accidentally severed during medical care, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.

The FIR was lodged on the complaint of the infant's father, Qaiser, against a nurse identified as Neelam Siddiq.

According to the FIR, the father said he discovered his daughter's thumb had been cut off when he visited her in the hospital nursery.

He alleged that the duty doctor informed him the injury had occurred accidentally at the hands of the nurse.

The complainant further stated that the doctor had assured him an inquiry would be conducted and that he would be informed of its findings.

However, he claimed that no update had been provided so far.

The baby, Lubaba, was born at Holy Family Hospital 23 days ago and was admitted to the nursery after developing breathing difficulties.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
