PM Shehbaz lauds NAB’s anti-corruption efforts

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Tuesday met with Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lt Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed Butt, who presented the Bureau’s biennial performance report for 2023-2024 during the high-level meeting, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The detailed report outlined NAB’s key achievements, including substantial recoveries of misappropriated funds and reclamation of hundreds of acres of illegally occupied government land, both valued in billions of rupees. It also documented the completion of 700 inquiries, 218 investigations, and the filing of 21 new references during the two-year span.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended NAB’s efforts in combating corruption, reiterating that eliminating graft and malpractice remains one of the government’s top priorities.

He emphasised that a corruption-free Pakistan is not just an ideal but a national necessity, and assured NAB of complete institutional support, including the provision of all necessary resources and facilities.

The Prime Minister also directed NAB to expedite the disposal of pending cases and stressed the importance of taking concrete steps to assist victims of financial fraud, ensuring the swift return of their stolen funds.

"NAB’s role is critical in restoring public trust. We will stand by every institution that supports transparency and justice," the Prime Minister remarked.

Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar was also present at the meeting.
