Four peace committee members killed in gun attack in Dera Ismail Khan

Four members of a local peace committee were killed after unidentified gunmen opened fire in the Kallachi area of northwestern Pakistan’s Dera Ismail Khan district, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday. 

According to police officials, the attack took place in the village of Attal Sharif, where armed assailants targeted members of the local peace committee.

Authorities said the deceased were all affiliated with the community peace committee, a local body often formed to assist law enforcement agencies in maintaining security and resisting militant activity in troubled areas.

Police said the attackers also abducted one peace committee member during the assault before fleeing the scene.

Security forces and police launched a search operation in and around Attal Sharif to trace the suspects and recover the kidnapped individual, officials added.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
