Two policemen were martyred when some unidentified gunmen opened fire at them during a search operation in Tatara area of Hayatabad, Peshawar late Tuesday night, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

Those killed were identified as ASI Riaz Khan and constable Jaafar. However, the suspects managed to flee from the spot after committing the crime.

It is pertinent to mention here that three cops have been martyred in the provincial capital this week alone. 

Police told the media the search operation had been carried out on the basis of reports that a proclaimed offender (PO) was hiding in the area. 

However, police also managed to arrest two suspected people from one of the houses during the operation.

Police informed that raids were being carried out to arrest the killers.

The police force expressed the optimism that it would soon get to the culprits.
