LPG price goes up by Rs10 per kg

Amid the alarming rise in inflation, there is more bad news for the Pakistanis as the LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) price in Pakistan reached Rs120 per kilogramme after an increase of $60 for one metric tonne in its rate in the international market, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
It means the per kilogram price in the country increased by Rs10, translating into Rs120 for domestic cylinder and Rs455 in the case of the one used for commercial purposes.
Earlier, the LPG price in the international market for October was $379 per metric tonne which jumped to $439 due to the $60 jump.
Pakistan requires 2,900 mmcfd (million cubic feet per day) to meet the energy requirements every day. In this scenario, 800 mmcfd of RLNG (regasified liquefied natural gas) is mixed with 900 mmcfd of locally extracted natural gas.
However, the country still faces a shortfall of 1,200 mmcfd and an import of 0.1 million tonne of LPG is required during winter.
Although the government circles will blame the increased price in the international market, it is the devaluation that had already made the imports costlier and any further rise will ultimately hit the consumers badly.
The latest weekly figures again show that the prices of basic items are on the rise without check, making it difficult for not only the poor but also the middle class to buy even vegetables and meat for daily food consumption.
