Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah on Thursday said that former governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair has a personal relationship with Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and he has a political relationship with PML-N but Zubair met with COAS in his personal capacity.

Talking to media persons in Lahore, Rana Sanaullah said demanded from military leadership to take action against Sheikh Rashid who he believed is a “security risk”.

Earlier, Sheikh Rasheed claimed that PML-N leadership met twice with the COAS stirring controversy about who met with General Qamar Javed Bajwa other than the parliamentary leaders to discuss Gilgit Baltistan issue.

Later in the evening on Wednesday, DG ISPR confirmed that Muhammad Zubair from PML-N met with the Army Chief twice, first in the last week of August and then on 7th September.

Zubair on his part said he did not ask any favour for his party leaders in meetings with General Bajwa. Zubair said he has some 40-year old relations with COAS Bajwa and it was not the first time he had met with the COAS. He said he never met COAS for any political reasons and he did not represent anyone in the meetings.

Zubair said neither Nawaz Sharif nor Maryam Nawaz asked for the meetings and he discussed different things with the COAS including political ones but that was not meant for asking favours. He said “The Army Chief himself had invited him during the marriage ceremony of Asad Umar’s son in Karachi to have a meeting with him whenever I visit Islamabad and when I came to Islamabad after coronavirus restrictions, I paid him a visit.”

Zubair denied that Nawaz or Maryam knew ahead of his meetings with the COAS but later he told about the meetings to Maryam.

He said DGI ISI Faiz Hameed asked him the purpose of his visit and I told him that I did not come here to seek any favour for his party or leaders.

However, DG ISPR earlier has categorically said in both meetings matters related to Maryam and Nawaz Sharif was discussed.
