LHC grants bail to son in murder case of Dr Shahid Siddiqui

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday issued the written order of the acceptance of the bail petition filed by the murderer of Dr. Shahid Siddiqui, a founding member of the PTI and the owner of a private hospital in Lahore, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In his two-page order, Justice Muhammad Amjad Rafiq wrote that bail was granted to Qasim Shahid, the son of Dr. Siddiqui, a suspect in the murder case of his father, against bail bonds of Rs500,000 each. 

He further said that there was an allegation against the suspect that he had hired a shooter to kill his father.

However, he added there was a need to investigate the charge against the suspect further. 

The petitioner’s counsel, the judge added, had said there was no allegation of firing against his client, while the counsel for the aggrieved party said that since the suspect had a criminal record; therefore, he should not be released on bail.

A dispute over a luxury car worth Rs130 million had led to the murder of Dr. Siddiqui by his own son in August 2024.

According to an initial investigation, Qasim had followed his father on the day of the murder to the bank where his father withdrew a significant amount of money.

The original plan, as revealed during the investigation, was to stage the attack on the way back from the bank to make it appear as if a robbery had gone wrong.

However, when the shooter failed to carry out the attack, Qasim instructed him to strike after Dr.

Siddiqui had offered Friday prayers. 

It was also revealed that Qasim had argued with his father over the purchase of a luxury car, which he wanted to impress his girlfriend.

Despite his father's initial refusal, it was discovered that Dr. Siddiqui had secretly booked the car as a surprise birthday gift for Qasim.
