Actress Samar Rana arrested in case related to rape, torture of teen domestic worker
Lahore police on Monday arrested stage actress Samar Rana in connection with a case of rape and torture of a 14-year-old domestic worker.
The case was registered at Nawab Town Police Station, where five men are accused of raping the teenage girl at Samar Rana’s residence.
Police officials confirmed that the actress not only failed to protect the child but is also accused of physically torturing and threatening her.
Law enforcers revealed that the suspects recorded videos of the assault, raising fears of the footage being misused or circulated.
“The actress has been taken into custody, and efforts are underway to arrest the other accused,” a police spokesperson said.
The disturbing case has once again put the spotlight on the plight of child domestic workers, many of whom face exploitation, abuse, and violence while working in private households.
Pakistan has witnessed several high-profile cases in recent years where underage domestic workers were subjected to violence by their employers.
Rights groups frequently point out that poverty, lack of education, and weak law enforcement leave children, especially girls, vulnerable to abuse behind closed doors.
Although laws exist to curb child labour and protect minors, activists argue that implementation remains weak.
They stress that cases like Samar Rana’s highlight the urgent need for strict monitoring of households employing underage workers.
