Nepra takes notice of complaints regarding net metering policy

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has taken strict notice of the reports that the authorities are no longer accepting applications for the net metering.

According to Nepra, the authority has observed that several distribution companies (Discos) have halted the registration of new net metering applications. Nepra noted that stopping such registrations is not only alarming but also a clear violation of existing laws and regulatory frameworks governing the power sector.

In response, Nepra has sought comprehensive details related to net metering from all Discos and has issued formal orders directing immediate compliance. The orders apply to all power distribution companies, including K-Electric.

The regulator has instructed all Discos to submit complete information regarding the status of net metering applications within three working days. Nepra further directed that the matter be treated as most urgent, underscoring the importance of net metering in promoting renewable energy and consumer participation in power generation.

Officials said Nepra will review the submitted details and take further action in accordance with the law to ensure uninterrupted implementation of net metering policies across the country.
