The Election Commission of Pakistan has rejected the Punjab government’s request to postpone the by-elections in NA-193 in Rajanpur and directed the provincial administration to provide security during polls, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Punjab home department had requested the ECP to delay the by-polls in NA-193 Rajanpur but the commission turned down the request saying that the election would be held tomorrow (Feb 26, Sunday) as per the schedule.
The ECP on Saturday wrote a letter to the Punjab chief secretary directing him to ensure the best security during Rajanpur by-election, adding that it’s the responsibility of the provincial government and the law enforcement institutions to maintain law and order during polls in the constituency.
The commission also asked the chief secretary to relay special instructions in the regard to all relevant departments.
The NA-193 seat fell vacant after the demise of MNA Sardar Jafar Khan Leghari.
