17 people died while celebrating Basant this year, LHC told
The Lahore High Court (LHC) was told on Wednesday that 12 people were killed after falling from roof, while two died after trees fell on them, while three passed away due to electrocution during the three-day Basant festival celebrations in Lahore in the first week of February, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
During the hearing of the petitions filed against Kite Flying Act, 2025, a report was submitted to the high court, detailing how many people died and how many were injured during the celebrations.
LHC judge Justice Malik Awais Khalid heard the petition filed by Judicial Activism Panel.
The court directed that a copy of the government report be handed over to the petitioner’s lawyer.
The court ordered the lawyer to submit the reply at the next hearing.
