Fire extinguishers made mandatory for commercial buildings in Punjab

In the wake of Gul Plaza Karachi inferno in which dozens of people lost their lives, the Punjab government on Sunday issued instructions to the owners of commercial buildings and ordered them to comply with them within 15 days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

As per the instructions, it was made mandatory that these buildings would have fire extinguishing equipment.

It was also directed that a stair made of steel be arranged in three-storey buildings so that people could exit during an emergency.

It was concurred that no NOC will be needed for these stairs.

Similarly, it has been made obligatory that there will be a fire extinguisher at each and every floor of these buildings.

Chief secretary Punjab passed on these instructions to all commissioners and deputy commissioners of the province during an online meeting.

It was agreed at the meeting that local governments would ensure compliance with these instructions.
