Body of Pakistani student who died by drowning in Germany to be repatriated next week

Preparations for the repatriation of the body of 20-year-old Pakistani student Asid Mirza, who drowned while taking a bath in a lake in the German state of Brandenburg, have been completed, diplomatic sources said.

According to diplomatic sources, the body of Asid Mirza, a resident of Karachi, is expected to arrive in Pakistan next week. Legal formalities for the repatriation of the body are currently being completed with the assistance of the Pakistani Embassy in Germany.

Asid Mirza drowned while bathing in Lake Würbelinsee in the German state of Brandenburg on July 13. The 20-year-old was studying in the German capital, Berlin.

The Pakistani Embassy in Berlin said the formal identification process of the deceased was completed on July 22, while funeral prayers for Asid Mirza were offered in Berlin on Friday.

The embassy stated that following the tragic incident, it remained in constant contact with the relevant German authorities to ensure all possible cooperation and facilitation during every stage of the search, identification, and transfer of the deceased to Pakistan.

According to the embassy, the body was recovered on July 17 as a result of the tireless efforts of the German Federal Foreign Office, Brandenburg Police, and other relevant agencies.

The embassy expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the German authorities for their professionalism, sympathy, and close cooperation throughout the process. It also said it remained in continuous contact with the family of the deceased and provided them with all possible consular assistance.

The Pakistani Embassy extended its heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed that Allah Almighty may grant the deceased a high place in His mercy.

The embassy also advised Pakistani citizens in Germany to exercise extreme caution while bathing in lakes, rivers, and other natural water bodies or participating in recreational activities. It urged them to strictly follow local safety instructions and warning signs and to avoid entering water in unsafe conditions.
