Imran is lying, govt will defend NAB amendments in SC: Tarar

June 25, 2022 09:09 PM

Federal Law Minister Barrister Azam Nazir Tarar has termed former premier Imran Khan’s statement as a bundle of lies and announced to defend the NAB amendments in Supreme Court (SC).
Reacting to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s speech on media against the government’s NAB amendments to secure the wealth of the rulers, the law minister said these amendments are in accordance with the Islamic Sharia, the Constitution of Pakistan and the laws.
Law Minister Barrister Azam Nazir Tarar said his government has stopped the misuse of the law by making amendments and they will fully defend these amendments in the court as these amendments have been made in the light of court decisions.
He further stated that his government has taken all these amendments to the Parliament and made them into an act after the debate. He added that his government has passed mostly the amendments which were introduced by Imran Khan through the ordinances in the past.
Tarar said PTI Chairman Imran Khan has approached the court on this issue now, so should avoid political commentary on it and leave the decision to the court.
In favour of the NAB amendments, Tarar said they have given protection to government employees so that they can serve the country without being blackmailed by the NAB.
Law Minister Tarar explained that the issues of granting the court the right to bail, granting bail after conviction, not appointing retired judges, and formulating procedures for the removal of the Chairman NAB are included in these amendments.
The minister said the SC bench has already written that NAB is used for political revenge while the Chief Justice of Pakistan had said in the full court reference that he has to say with difficulty that these laws have been misused.
