Huawei plans 7-Inch Quad-Curved display phone amid flat-screen strategy

Chinese technology company Huawei is reportedly preparing to introduce a new 7-inch quad-curved display smartphone, marking a potential shift from its recent focus on flat-screen designs across its device lineup.

According to leaks shared by well-known Weibo tipster DigitalChatStation, the company is developing a large-screen handset that may feature a 7-inch quad-curved display.

The device is speculated to be part of a new “Air” variant, possibly the Mate 80 Air, although the final name has not been confirmed.

The report comes at a time when Huawei has largely transitioned its smartphones — including the Mate 80 series, Pura 90 lineup, and recent Nova models — to flat displays. The shift was aimed at improving durability, particularly when paired with Kunlun Glass, while also reducing accidental touches and glare.

Despite this strategy, the upcoming device suggests a possible return to curved-display designs for select premium models. The handset is expected to feature a flagship Kirin 9-series chipset, a slim profile, and an advanced rear camera system, positioning it as a high-end performance device.

The tipster indicated that the phone is likely to launch in the second half of the year, aligning with Huawei’s broader product rollout plans scheduled between September and November.

Nova 16 Series Launch Set for June 1

Huawei has confirmed that its upcoming nova 16 series will officially launch in China on June 1. The lineup will include the nova 16, nova 16 Pro, nova 16z, and nova 16 Ultra, with reservations already open in the domestic market.

The nova 16 Pro and Ultra variants are expected to feature triple rear camera setups, arranged within a dual-circle design integrated into a rectangular camera module. The standard nova 16 will reportedly offer a dual-camera system, while the nova 16z will feature a pill-shaped rear camera layout.

Design teasers show the Pro model in Sky Blue and Iridescent color options. On the front, the Pro and Ultra variants may include dual selfie cameras in a pill-shaped cutout, while the standard and 16z models are expected to feature a single hole-punch camera.

According to earlier leaks, the nova 16 Ultra could come equipped with a 6.84-inch LTPO display, a Kirin 9-series processor, a 7,000mAh battery, and a 50-megapixel main camera with a large sensor.

Huawei is expected to reveal additional details closer to the official launch date.
