AGP unveils road construction scam of Rs7.2b

The Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) Monday disclosed huge embezzlement of Rs7.27 billion in road construction in Punjab province during fiscal 2019-20.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, the AGP submitted its report to the government on the irregularities of the Department of Communication and Works on Monday.

The audit report revealed that Rs1.77 billion was additionally paid to the contractors and an unnecessary expenditure of Rs340 million was incurred.

The report further disclosed that financial irregularities of Rs one billion were also identified on procurement in road construction, adding that additional payments of Rs1.77 billion were made to the contractors of the department.

It is also exposed in the report that the department had not submitted more than 200 schemes for the audit of its record.
