Punjab Excise and Taxation Department is planning to launch vanity license plates for vehicles as per people’s choice, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Tuesday.  

The department will allow citizens to buy and select their choice of number for their automobile’s number plate and select the name and picture of their heroes, important places, and multinational companies to be shown on the number plates. There will also be an option to customize number plates with national heroes (non-political nature).

The Punjab government will form a committee for the SOPs, pricing and implementation of the Vanity Plates. 

About five years ago, a third-party completed the work regarding the vanity plates, but the Buzdar government stopped the work on the project.

Now, the government has decided to issue the vanity plates again to collect revenue. 

Following the recommendations of the committee, the vanity plates will be launched.

The authority has even made a website and a mobile application for the ease of people in this regard. The site and the app would soon be operational.

It is pertinent that the number plates will be issued under four categories.

Under the first two categories, Gold, and Platinum, the vanity number plates will be issued to multinational companies, while under the other two categories, silver and bronze, the citizens of Lahore will get their desired number plates.

The concept of vanity number plates is in trend in the United States and the United Kingdom. The government of these countries sells vanity numbers to the citizens in a bid to gain money.
