Imran Khan could not be produced in court in Nikah case

Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan was not presented in the Islamabad civil court in the illegal Nikkah case after the jail superintendent refused to obey the court order citing security reasons, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Earlier, in compliance with the court order, a police contingent went to Attock Jail to bring the PTI chairman with them but the jail superintendent declined to obey the court order saying that he had already submitted an application to the court seeking the accused’s exemption from his court appearance in the case.

The judge directed the authorities to produce Imran Khan in the court on next hearing.

On Sunday, the superintendent of Attock Jail wrote a letter to the civil court judge informing him that he could not let former premier Imran Khan out of the prison due to security threats.

During the previous hearing of the case on September 21, Civil Judge Qudrat Ullah issued a summons for the PTI chairman, directing the jail authorities to present him in court on September 25.

The superintendent wrote that Imran Khan was incarcerated in Attock Jail in the cipher case which was registered under the Official Secrets Act and Special Court Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain was holding his trial in the jail.

“We will take security risk if we move Imran out of jail. Any mishap may occur in the ensuing journey from Attock to Islamabad,” the superintendent wrote, pleading further with the court to exempt the PTI chairman from court appearance.
