Online frauds on the rise in Pakistan

Innocent citizens were deprived of billions of rupees through online frauds as the country faces coronavirus pandemic, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has said that they have received numerous complaints during the last few weeks about the online frauds which amount to over 100 million rupees. “The actual amount of the online frauds is much more than that because all the crimes committed in this regard are not reported,” said the FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing.

According to details, complaints worth more than Rs100 million were reported to the FIA’s ​​Cyber ​​Crime Wing during the last one and a half month.

After scanning these reports carefully, the Cyber Crime Wing said that more than Rs55 million frauds were done through online banking while more than Rs7.8 million frauds through fake websites.

Moreover Rs21.1 million worth of frauds were done through mobile banking while social media websites were used for frauds worth Rs10.2 million.
