Chairman Public Accounts Committee Rana Tanvir Hussain has summoned FIA Director General Wajid Zia on April 28 to seek updates regarding the involvement of those elements involved in wheat crisis.
The PAC will convene its meeting on April 28 in Parliament House, and the PAC Chairman has resolved to unmask the individuals who created the artificial food crisis. “We’ll unmask the people responsible for the artificial wheat crisis,” Rana Tanvir, the PML-N MNA from Sheikhupura, said.
A day earlier, DG FIA had sought extension in the deadline in submission of food-crisis report from the prime minister. The FIA was tasked to submit the inquiry report by April 25, which the agency said it could not complete due to the coronavirus and the lack of cooperation by the sugar mills owners.
The extension of the further two weeks that the PM granted to the FIA as a new deadline was denounced by opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif as a collusion between the government and the FIA aimed at concealing the truth from the people.
In a statement on earlier Sunday, PML-N President and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif said non-disclosure of the final report tantamount to the “confession” of the crime by Imran Niazi Sahab and Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar. “Those who gave the approval in Cabinet and in ECC and those who sanctioned the subsidy are responsible for this crisis,” he added.
The PML-N president said the delay in the final inquiry report confirmed the Rs100 billion “dacoity” by the government. “The delay in the reports is actually aimed at saving the real culprits,” he added.
“Imran cannot hide his crime by delaying the report. Now the inquiry commission is not impartial as the scams do not require further inquiry or forensic,” he said and added “Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Khurram Dastagir should be allowed to appear before the inquiry commission as their statements will make the things crystal clear.”
