AR Rahman lately sat with Nayandeep Rakshit on his podcast, where he recalled the incident when a simple family photo showcasing Khatija in a burqa at an event received significant backlash.

The other family members, including Rahman’s wife, Saira Banu, and daughter, Raheema, did not wear any hijab there, which somehow led others to speculate that he might have forced daughter to don the hijab.
Addressing the same, the singer said that the choice of living a public life is intentional from a rich man to God himself, everyone gets reviewed.”
"As long as we remain united and we are not arrogant and we do not bring negativity to even those who are expressing opinions, “he added.

He said that he thinks he is not well qualified to argue with her.
He jokingly mentioned that Khatija frequently sends him emails that are two pages long, which solely emphasize her independence and eloquence.
