Karachi Police chief DIG Nasir Aftab on Saturday said that Ashraf Bangalzai, the prime suspect in the murder of journalist Athar Mateen has been arrested from Hub district, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

It has been revealed that Ashraf aka Lamba is a record criminal who has been involved in robbery incidents and bike snatching in the past.  

The accused is a resident of Khuzdar, Balochistan. 

He was first detained in 2016 in a bike (KGL04291) snatching incident in Surjani and the second time in the same year by Brigade Police for another motorbike snatching incident.

The accused was third time arrested by New Town Police in 2020 and the fourth time by the Bahadurabad Police station.  

Sindh Information Minister Saeed Ghani tweeted and lauded Karachi Police to alleged killer Ashraf saying that the move will enhance the confidence of the Sindh police among the masses.

He vowed to provide justice to the slain journalist Athar Mateen.
