Balochistan govt to complete Sohbatpur Drainage Project worth Rs5 billion
The Balochistan government has decided to complete Hair Din Drainage Project in province’s fruit basket district of Sohbatpur at a cost of Rs5 billion, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A meeting of parliamentarians and irrigation officials chaired by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti on Thursday also reviewed ongoing development and rehabilitation projects in the irrigation sector in Naseerabad division.
The meeting approved better planning of river resources and reorganization of canals.
The meeting emphasized on use of modern technology for monitoring and effective management of irrigation projects.
The meeting also decided to include rehabilitation projects of Manjhoti and Och Canal in the budget of the next financial year.
Addressing the meeting, CM Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said irrigation projects are the main pillars of agricultural development and economic stability.
Sarfaraz Bugti said Naseerabad division is the green belt and fruit basket of the province.
Comprehensive measures will be taken to facilitate thousands of families associated with the agricultural sector, Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said.
He said irrigation system will be developed on modern lines in agricultural production areas.
Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said reorganization of all canals and drainage systems will be completed in phases.
He said Project Directors will be appointed preferably from the relevant departments.
The quality of development projects will be made sustainable by strengthening the accountability process, Chief Minister added.
He said along with agricultural development, local economy and employment opportunities will increase.
The meeting was attended by Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentary Leader Mir Muhammad Sadiq Imrani, Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Parliamentary Leader Mir Saleem Khan Khosa, Jamaat-e-Islami Parliamentary Leader Abdul Majeed Badini, Provincial Minister Nawabzada Mir Tariq Khan Magsi and Parliamentary Secretary Haji Muhammad Khan Lehri, Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Development Zahid Saleem, Secretary Irrigation Sohail-ur-Rehman and relevant officials.
