Sindh home minister orders beefing up security across province
Zia Lanjar says only one, two persons will pick or drop passengers at airports; Orders forensic of social media posts promoting extremism
Sindh Home Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar on Thursday ordered that security be further tightened across the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Chairing a high-level meeting in Sindh Assembly, he said that tough decisions needed to be taken in view of the incidents of terrorism that rocked the country in the past. “We will have to make foolproof security arrangements at airports besides conducting security audit of all key and sensitive installations,” he said, and added that there was a great rush of people at airports. Therefore, there was a need to be more vigilant. “Only one or two persons will be allowed to either pick or drop passengers at the airport.”
The minister also directed that implementation on each and every clause of the National Action Plan (NAP) be ensured.
Lanjar said that Karachi was the financial capital of Pakistan. “Police will have to strengthen its ties with other law-enforcement agencies,” he asserted.
He directed that comprehensive SOPs be devised to ensure a quick response at a site of any terror attack.
He also stressed the need for a greater coordination with other provinces.
The minister ordered that the availability of Talash App device be ensured in all jails of the province. “The device should be used during snap checking, picketing and combing operations.”
He said there was a need to deploy lady searchers at the entry and exit points of the province.
He ordered conducting the forensic of social media posts promoting extremism, sectarianism and militancy.
Lanjar also ordered an indiscriminate crackdown on the display of weapons in the province.
He also stressed the need for closely monitoring railway stations, bus terminals and truck stands.
Home secretary, IGP Sindh and other participants gave a detailed briefing to the minister.
Additional chief secretary Home Department, Additional IGs, officials of the CTD and Special Branch, IG Jail, Joint Director General IB, ASF, Pakistan Airport Authority and law-enforcement agencies officials were also in attendance.
