Kundi pays tribute to Manjhi Khel checkpoint martyrs

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi Sunday paid tribute to the policemen martyred in the Manjhi Khel checkpoint attack, reaffirming that Pakistan's security forces would continue fighting terrorism until the last militant is eliminated, 24NewsHD TV reported.

Speaking to the media at the RPO Office in Dera Ismail Khan, Kundi said Pakistan was confronting both internal and external security challenges, alleging that Afghan territory was being used for activities against Pakistan.

He added that the country's armed forces and law enforcement agencies remained on the front line in the fight against terrorism and that the nation stood firmly with its martyrs and war heroes.

He said two policemen embraced martyrdom while four others were injured, adding that despite the intensity of the attack, greater damage was prevented.

The governor said the assault caused a massive explosion involving around 1,500 kilograms of explosives.

He also praised the courage and high morale of the injured personnel. 

Governor Kundi stressed that terrorism could not be defeated unless all stakeholders stood united.

He said Pakistan had continued diplomatic engagement with Afghanistan even when many countries had distanced themselves, but the security situation along the border remained serious because of ongoing challenges.

He expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying the region continued to face grave security threats.

He also alleged that Israel and India were using their resources against Pakistan, adding that the country's fight against terrorism had continued for years and was not a short-term battle.

Highlighting the sacrifices of the police, Governor Kundi said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police personnel receive lower salaries than their counterparts in the other four provinces.

He called for an increase in the compensation package for the families of martyred police personnel, saying the state has a responsibility to ensure the welfare and education of their children.
