Amid an ongoing tussle between Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) and the food companies, responsible to supply food to zoo, the food suppl companies have written letters to the KMC management, apprising it about unpaid bills, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the text of the letter, two companies supply food to the zoo animals. Senior director of zoo Khalid Hashmi is demanding 25 percent of the bill. A company's due bill is Rs3.46 billion whereas the other company’s unpaid bill is 8.4 million. The companies finally had to stop supplying food because the bills still had not been paid despite repeated reminders.
It further stated that former zoo director Raza Abbas also took commission but the bills were not paid, and that the contractors were still providing animal feed at the same rate they had been three years ago. Furthermore, senior zoo directors also demanded extortion from companies.
Given the current state of the economy, it is no longer possible to provide food on loan. The contractor in the letter maintained that zoo authorities need to clear their unpaid dues in order to feed animals.
