FM Qureshi in Tehran to attend Afghanistan moot

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has arrived in Tehran to attend multinational moot on Afghanistan named ‘AfNeighbors2021’ at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart Dr Abdullahian, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The meeting will be attended by foreign ministers of China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and a representative from Russia.

Qureshi is visiting Tehran for second meeting of Neighboring Countries of Afghanistan on 27 October 2021.

MOFA Spokesperson said on Tuesday that the Foreign Minister will deliver a statement during the meeting, sharing Pakistan’s perspective on the latest developments.
The Foreign Minister will also interact with Iran’s leadership.
At Pakistan’s initiative, the first meeting of Neighboring Countries of Afghanistan was held on 8 September 2021.
The meeting concluded with a joint statement, reflecting neighboring countries’ approach to Afghanistan.
Pakistan believes that the neighbours have a direct stake in the peace, stability and prosperity of Afghanistan. It is, therefore, important to remain engaged with a view to evolving a coordinated regional approach.
Pakistan will continue to support the international community’s efforts to promote the shared objectives of a peaceful, stable, connected and prosperous Afghanistan.
Iranian Foreign Ministry tweeted, “Tehran Meeting can provide a proper round for further talks about peaceful future of Afghanistan with the participation of all ethnic groups of Afghan society.”

The first round of talks was virtually hosted by Pakistan on September 9, 2021.
During the meeting, the participation emphasized on their support for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Afghanistan.
Their joint statement also called for inclusive government and the necessity of not allowing Afghan’s territory to be used to threaten other countries.
Pertinent to note that FM Qureshi on Monday met Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan and conveyed Pakistan’s congratulations for Middle East Green Summit, a first in the region.
He said, “Always good to meet brother…look forward to continuing to work closely to strengthen bilateral relations with particular focus on trade, investment, energy & the environment.”

He left for Iran after attending the climate change summit in Saudi Arabia.
