In the coming year, Google will let out the final version of Chrome for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

The final version of Chrome that supports the two older Microsoft operating systems (Windows 7 and 8.1) will be 110, which is likely to be releases on February 7, 2023.

This could be more significant than users believe. Data indicates that Windows 7 is still being used on a large number of devices, even though it was initially introduced in 2009 and Microsoft formally ended support for it in 2020. As late as last year, it was believed that approximately 100 million PCs were still running Windows 7.

The move might pose a serious security concern since many users may soon have both an incompatible operating system and web browser.

According to the Google support page, Chrome will continue to function after version 110 but would not receive any more updates for Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. Therefore, they highly recommend updating as soon as users can if they are still using a system running one of those outdated operating systems.

The users would be able to benefit from the most recent Chrome features and security upgrades while also getting operating system security updates.
