PM Shehbaz launches RLNG supply for domestic consumers

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday formally launched the process for the supply of Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) connections to domestic consumers across the country, marking a significant step in addressing Pakistan’s persistent energy challenges.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, speaking at an inauguration ceremony on Sunday, the prime minister said the restoration of domestic gas connections had been a long-standing demand of the public and a key concern for successive governments.

“When the PDM government was formed in 2022, we faced tremendous pressure from the people regarding gas supply,” the prime minister said, recalling the severe shortage that had affected millions of households. 

“At that time, ensuring gas availability was a major challenge. But later, funds were released, infrastructure was upgraded, and now RLNG will be supplied nationwide to a large number of applicants.”

Shehbaz Sharif described the new initiative as a continuation of the public welfare policies introduced by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif during his 2013–2018 tenure. 

“When Mian Nawaz Sharif assumed office for the third time, the country was suffering from up to 20 hours of load shedding daily,” he noted, adding that today’s progress reflected the same commitment to improving people’s lives.

The prime minister also congratulated coalition partners, including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), for their support in restoring gas connections and promoting development-oriented governance.

He concluded his address with a prayer for Pakistan’s progress and urged citizens to work hard with unity and dedication.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, cabinet ministers, senior government officials, parliamentarians, and representatives of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL).
