Terrorist killed, cop injured in Hangu attack on police post

One terrorist was killed and a policeman injured when armed men attacked a police check post in Hangu on Sunday, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Khan Zeb Mohmand, injured police official Zafar Adnan was shifted to Peshawar for medical treatment following the exchange of fire.

The attack comes just days after a tragic incident in which SP (Operations) Asad Zubair Afridi and two of his gunmen were martyred in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the same district.

Following the blast, law enforcement agencies have launched extensive search and clearance operations across multiple areas of Hangu to trace those responsible.

Reports suggest that SP Asad Zubair was martyred due to the unavailability of a bulletproof vehicle at the time of the explosion. Sources claim that while the Federal Interior Ministry had dispatched bulletproof vehicles for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi had declined to accept them, reportedly for political considerations.

Meanwhile, CM Sohail Afridi visited Kohat on Sunday to offer Fateha at the residence of former Interior Minister and National Assembly member Shehryar Khan Afridi, the cousin of the martyred SP.

The chief minister expressed deep sorrow over the loss, saying, “The nation will always remember the sacrifices of its brave soldiers.” He strongly condemned the Hangu bomb blast and directed the Inspector General of Police to submit an immediate report on the incident.

CM Afridi vowed that those responsible for the attack would be brought to justice, emphasizing that the government stands firmly with the families of the martyrs and the province’s security forces.
