India edge past Sri Lanka in Super Over in Asia Cup Super Four

In a thrilling finish to the last Super Four match of the Asia Cup 2025, India defeated Sri Lanka in a dramatic Super Over to secure their place in the final against arch-rivals Pakistan, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.

The match ended in a tie as both teams posted identical totals of 202 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs in Dubai.

Batting first, India reached 202/5, with their top order providing stability and momentum.

Sri Lanka responded with an equally spirited chase, but their innings also concluded at 202/5.

The match went right down to the wire, with Sri Lanka requiring three runs off the final delivery to secure victory.

However, they managed only two runs, pushing the contest into a Super Over.

The game moved into a Super Over, where Sri Lanka faltered, scoring just two runs under immense pressure.

India made light work of the chase, knocking off the runs in a single delivery without losing a wicket, sealing their berth in the final.

The highlight of Sri Lanka’s innings was a magnificent knock by opener Pathum Nissanka, who lit up the stadium with the first century of the Asia Cup 2025.

Nissanka scored a blistering 107 off just 82 deliveries, studded with seven fours and six towering sixes.

Despite his heroic effort, Sri Lanka’s campaign ended in heartbreak as India held their nerves to clinch victory.

The result means cricket fans will witness a high-voltage final on Sunday in Dubai, where traditional rivals Pakistan and India will lock horns for the prestigious Asia Cup trophy.
 
 Earlier, India set a 203-run target for Sri Lanka.  

Asked to bat first, Indian batters Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma helped India to post a big total of 202 for 5 in 20 overs.

Abhishek Sharma smashed 61 runs off 31 balls, while Tilak hit 49 not out off 34.

During the knock, Abhishek became the batter with the most runs in a T20 Asia Cup edition.

He surpassed Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan and India's Virat Kohli for the big record.

Sanju Samson also helped the team's cause with a 39-run knock.

Earlier, Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka won the toss and opted to bowl first.
