Second round of govt-PTI poll parleys tomorrow

Shah Mahmood Qureshi says discussions shouldn't be used as tactics to delay elections; Ishaq Dars says matters will be handled in accordance with the constitution

The first round of talks between the delegations of government and PTI on the matter of elections has concluded, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported Thursday.

The representatives of the two sides expressed their resolve to continue the dialogue process and told the media that the next moot will be held tomorrow at 3pm.

Talking to the media, coalition government rep Yousaf Raza Gilani said the PTI will present its demands tomorrow.

Ishaq Dar said the issues will be resolved in accordance with the constitution.

PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi told the media that the views were exchanged in the two-hour dialogue.

These discussions should not be used as a delaying tactic, the former foreign minister said, adding that solution beyond the constitution is out of the question.

He added “Public betterment is the top priority of the PTI. We told them we will go for consideration any proposal in accordance with the constitution.”

“Political parties solve problems through dialogue and the purpose of such a sitting is to find a solution.

According to sources, Fawad Chaudhry and Ishaq Dar and exchanged banter during the huddle.

The PTI demanded a date should be given for dissolving the National Assembly to hold elections, the insiders said, adding that constitutional amendment will have to be done after 90 days and the PTI's presence in the House is ‘indispensable’.

The resignations of PTI members should be withdrawn and the post of opposition leader should be given to PTI, the sources said.
